NW parts...

Worked on top of the shade all morning closing off the west end. Once I seal the building, I may still need a no trespass order to keep GMOs out of my greenhouse.

Just learned today that the fight continues against the Obama administration, genetically modified organisms, and his food safety czar Michael Taylor.  He had been Monsanto’s attorney before becoming policy chief at the FDA. Soon after, he became Monsanto’s vice president and chief lobbyist.  Now he is in charge of our food supply.

This information just makes me more determined to leave store-bought processed food behind. Seeds starts begin on Oct.1.

GMOs are a plague on the land and the current administration doesn't seem to recognize the danger they pose for organic growers and people in general. The revolving door between big business and government harms the people's interest and results in big, hugely profitable companies like GE paying no taxes at all. This happens in every administration and stems from, in my view, how elections are financed- every politician is acutely aware of big sources of funding, and their concerns become paramount. Most troubling thing about Obama for me is his failure to state some principles and goals, bring them up repeatedly, and then stick to them. To lead, that is. But when I look at the other party... Bachmann? Perry? Really? I can't see how any of the Republican candidates would be any good for the middle class and the people at the bottom. The gap between the haves and have-nots would just get greater, producing a REALLY nonfunctional country. You've got one just to the south of you like that. Sorry to run on.

Nice work on the greenhouse. Will you seal up the gaps above the clear siding? Will you be putting up a screen behind the louvered vent to keep out unwanted insects?

Scary business about our food supply, the people who are charged with keeping it safe, and the business interests praying on and unsuspecting public. I think I'm going to join an organic food co-op. Buy local, organic, fresh, and safe food. It's possible to find it, even in the big city.

It's too simple to blame this GE crops mess on Obama. Commercial production of GE crops began in 1996. Check out this interesting graph....

Solution: Grow your own (everything!)

Good grief, yes JW, hopefully it's only a little over a year to 2012 before the pendulum starts swinging back toward common sense.

The sad thing is, as far as GMOs and environmental conservation goes, the Dems are still far better than the Repubs.
